My husband and I have a disagreement about who has the right of way at a two-way stop.

If two vehicles are at a two way stop on a street, who has the right of way?

I say its the person who got there first, my husband says its the person who is "going straight" (not turning).

But if that is the case, i would think that would cause confusion, because technically someone could be waiting a long time to make their "turn" if everyone kept going straight.

Oh the mysteries of traffic.

I don’t like to get between a husband and wife when they disagree, but, I’ll put on my body armor and reply.

Your question is a good one, but not very complete, so let me paint a scenario:

Two cars (one going north the other south) arrive at the “uncontrolled” or “four-way stop” intersection at the same time. One wants to make a left turn, the other wants to go straight.

Verdict: the car going straight has the right of way.

Same situation, but one car arrives at the intersection first (either car).

Verdict: That car has the right of way, no matter which way it wants to go.

The race is not always to the swift,
but to those who keep on running - but not speeding.
